Displacement was commissioned in 2021 for New York Theatre Ballet’s Lift Lab Live series which presented dance to audiences in accordance with COVID guidelines. The duet explores the human need for touch, connection, and togetherness through a queer lens. During a time when social distancing ruled and we had to police the way we gathered and moved, I felt audiences could have a window into how queer people police their own bodies, movement, and the way we touch each other in public. After Lift Lab Live, Displacement has been performed at Battery Dance Festival (2023), White Wave Dance Festival (2022), and Queens Outdoor Dance Festival (2022).
Premiered at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery, April 2021
